Грегоријански корал је баш леп.

Kao mladi 16 godisnji hriscanin sam dugo vremena, dvadesetak godina i vise bio velikim poklonikom raskosne istocne bizantinske liturgije i crkvene muzike i pojanja a odatle potice moj interes za istocno hriscanstvo i istocnoobrednu bizantsku liturgiju. Medjutim s godinama me sve vise privlaci monaski stroga i minimalisticka ali istovremeno nadpozemska i andjeoska ljepota gregorijanskog korala. Najbitnije od svega toga je da je to hriscanska muzika pjevana u slavu Boga - Svete Trojice i sasvim je svejedno da li slusamo radije bizantsko pojanje, gregorijanski koral ili soul i spiritual music, glavno da nas ta muzika oslovljava i ispunjava mirom i duhom Bozijim.

S istorijskog aspekta vrlo zanimljiv je fenomen "beneventanskog pjevanja ili pojanja" što je jedna od najaarhaičnijih formi gregorijanskog spjeva prozašla ustvari direktno iz bizantskog monodijskog pojanja, ustvari je to takav danas bismo rekli rimski, dakle zapadni "remake" istočnih muzičkih tradicija prilagođen rimskom "uhu i naturi" a izvanredno je važan i za dallji razvoj liturgije kod Slavena na Zapadu, dakle Slavena rimokatolika i njihovu liturgijsku tradiciju u čemu je odigrao i imao ključni liturgijski značaj. Posebno mnogo je uticao na tradiciju hrvatskog "glagoljanja" ili hrvatsku glagoljašku slavensku liturgijsku tradiciju koja se ne može ni razumjeti i zamisliti bez poznavanja tog "beneventanskog pojanja" koje je nekada ustvari bilo samostalnim autohtonim liturgijskim obredom katoličke Crkve ravnim rimskom, mozarabskom, galskom i ambrozijanskom itd. a i starije od većine njih. Jednom kad stignem postavim o tom više materijala u tom postu " Beneventansko pjevanje ili pojanje" koji je već netko otvorio prije mene ovdje na Forumu. A ovaj put ovdje napostujem samo jedan prekrasan video koji će vam se sigurno svidjeti. Dakle napjev ili himan je iz liturgije Velikog Petka, klanjanja Časnom Krstu, ne da je strašno star ali zaista "jezivo" star, iz prvih 3 ili 4 stoljeća kršćanstva na njemu se može tačno ilustrirati kako su potom vremenom sve grčke pjesme i krššćanski himni bili postupno preuzimani sa širenjem kršćanstva sa istoka na zapad jer primjetno je da dio texta pjevaju na grčkom a dio na latinskom. Ovdje možete čuti njegovu jednu od kasnijih varijacija koja potiče iz XI stoljeća kad je tek bio zabilježen a prvobitni napjev sam je mnogo stariji, znači tako kako sam napisao porijeklo ima iz prvih vjekova hrišćanstva. Sto se tice zastupljenosti, vjerovatno si tim mislio na liturgijsku primjenu, bio je rasiren po cijeloj zapadnoj Evropi i tokom cijele istorije hriscanstva, pocetak i porijeklo mu je u grckoj i rimskoj svjetovnoj i duhovnoj muzici i tradiciji a kasnije se vijekovima "procistio" i usavrsio do te danasnje svoje nadpozemske i nematerijalne krase i ljepote. Bio je njegovan svim redovima na zapadu, najvise benediktincima, cistercitima i slicnim redovima, svaki manastir je imao svoju "scholu cantotum" i svoj posebno upecatljiv stil, nacin pjevanja preuziman monaskim bratstvom tog manastira s koljena na koljeno kao manastirski "brand", znacka. Znaci nacin pjevanja korala se mjenjao i kroz istoriju, hronoloski ali i geografski, razliciti manastiri su istu stvar pjevali svaki otprilike slicno jer notni zapis (neume) je bio isti ali sa nekim svojim posebnim ukkrasima, koji je to pjevanje cinio originalnim i autenticnim. Do doba krstaskih ratova veliki utjecaj na gregorijanski koral imala je muzika hriscanskog istoka, dakle bizantska, medjutim od XIV vijeka pa nadalje taj utjecaj slabi a traga se za nacinom pjevanja korala koji bi bio vise meditativan i odrazavo nebesku stvarnost, harmoniju koja nas ceka, dakle bio oprosten od ljudskih strasti pa i u crkvenomn pojanju i tako je nastao onaj klasicni bestrasni, bestjelesni, smireni, andjeoski, nadpozemski stil pjevanja korala.

Meni se cini da su najviste tih najstarijih stvari izvornog gregorijanskog korala u najvecoj mjeri sacuvali benevenrtansko pojanje i ambrozijanski obred, ne moze se sad reci decidno da je najvise izvornog korala tamo ili vamo, svaki obred, tradicija ili red je sacuvao nesto, jedni ovo, drugi ono, sve to zajedno cini cjelinu.

Pronasao sam u jednom ozbiljnom ceskom casopisu "Harmonie" koji se bavi muzikologijom serijal clanaka o istoriji gregorijanskog korala pa ako ne nadjem nista na nasem, onda cu prevesti to sa ceskog, izgleda to vrlo lijepo i fundovano napisano. Clanci su potom bili preneseni i objavljeni na ceskom muzickom portalu Muzikusu.

Акафіст до Богородиці - українською мовою. Виконують монахи студитського уставу (УГКЦ). Фото: Гошівська чудотворна ікона Божої Матері. Під час процесії перенесення ікони до монастирського храму в Гошеві, донька Катерини Хоєцької оздоровилась від сліпоти, а згодом ченці записували численні чуда, яких тільки від 1737 р. до кінця 18 ст. було 117. Гошівська ікона чудом збереглася від пожежі в час Другої світової війни, натомість монастирські будівлі були знищені.

Akathist to Theotokos (Mother of God) All Virgin Mary in Ukrainian language. By "Studite brethren", monks of Studite order of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. The Akathist Hymn is a hymn of Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic tradition dedicated to a saint, holy event, or one of the persons of the Holy Trinity. In this case its hymn to All Virgin Mary, the Most Holy and All Merciful Mother of God incarnated.

Only since 1737 until the end of the 19th century 117 supernatural miracles (healings through the prayers to the Mother of God at this icon) were recorded in Hoshiv. Note that eastern rite Christians dont pray to the wood or an idol like some think but to those who are depicted on the icon. Icons are windows into eternity, windows to those who are depicted on them...something like a photo of a mother or some dear person that you hang on a wall, sensual means able to activate the memory and senses, setting one in a right mood.

14 Holy Helpers (Fourteen Auxiliary Saints) - the greatest Christian saints - proved efficacious helpers in adversity and difficulties - all highly recommendable for invocation - the saints you need to know.

MUSIC: Medieval chant (prayer) of the Gradual of Eleanor of Brittany (13th - 14th century AD): Orbis Factor (means "Creator of the World" in Latin) - Kyrie / Christe eleison (means "Lord / Christ have mercy" in Greek).

Fourteen Holy Helpers - a group of Christian saints who enjoyed a collective cult in the Rhineland from the 14th century. From Ratisbon and Bamberg this devotion spread to the rest of Germany, Hungary, and Sweden, but it had little following in France and Italy. Its apogee was reached in the 15th century. In the 16th it was attacked by reformers and discouraged by the Council of Trent. It enjoyed, nevertheless, a certain revival in the baroque abbeys of Bavaria and Svabia.

A group of saints invoked with special confidence because they have proven themselves efficacious helpers in adversity and difficulties, known and venerated under the name Fourteen Holy Helpers. Though each has a seperate feast or memorial day, the group was collectively venerated on 8 August. However, this feast was dropped and suppressed in the 1969 reform of the calendar. They are invoked as a group because of the Black Plague which devastated Europe from 1346 to 1349.

My list is after the entry about 14 Holy Helpers at the 'Oxford Dictionary of Saints' by Hugh Farmer (former Benedectine monk and 'saints expert') - the only difference I put St Nicholas to be the first, though Farmer lists him among the 19 in the article. The list is comprised of the following saints:

01 Saint Acacius - who asked God just before he was crucified at the hands of pagan army, that whoever venerated his memory would enjoy health of mind and body.

02 Saint Barbara

03 Saint Blaise

04 Saint Catherine of Alexandria (Sinai)

05 Saint Christopher

06 Saint Cyricus (Cyriacus, Quiricus, Cyr) - child saint

07 Saint Denys

Good People,

Jesus emerges from the 40 day battle in the dangerous desert victorious. He emerges proclaiming the Kingdom of God is at hand. God's Kingdom is finally coming down to earth. The love of God, powerful and good, is now springing forth like water. Now we who thurst can finally be satisfied.

Pope Benedict has guide for us as we begin our 40 days of lent. We too want to emerge victorious with Jesus to be living announcements of God's Kingdom, living breathing signs of his power and goodness. So what does our good Pope tell us.

The Pope explains one of the three traditional practices for lent. The three traditional Lenten practices are prayer, fasting, and alms giving. The Pope focuses on fasting.

Some of the points he makes you might find help full are: Fasting doesn't mean only fasting from food. It can mean fasting from anything "useful and good for our bodily sustenance."

What would be examples of things we can fast from besides food? The Pope gives us examples from "an ancinet hymn of the Lenten liturgy" which "exhorts: Utamur ergo parcius, / verbis cibis et potibus, / somno, iocis et arctius / perstemus in custodia Let us use sparingly words, food and drink, sleep and amusements. May we be more alert in the custody of our senses.

This tells us that words and sleep can be added to the list of things that we fast from. We are used to fasting from candy or chocolate or meat. But what about fasting from words? I am sure the priests I live with would be happy if I decided to do more of that when we eat together. What about fasting from sleep? I am sure that there are some that should be careful not to do too much of that. What about fasting from amusements. I am sure that the TV shows, movies, video games, to name but a few could be a fruitful for many in our world today.

The who point is also contained in this little song from so long ago. The fasting is so that we can have custody of our senses. That is to say, we are training ourselves, increasing our self control so that with that control we can focus on Christ.

The Pope recommends use our new time and attention that fasting gives us to focus more on whatever nourishes our soul so that we can love God and eachother more.

It is easy. Fasting helps us focus more on God and therefore stregthens our soul.

Then when we emerge from the 40 days of Lent like Christ in the Gospel we will be with Him able to joyfully proclaim to the world that God's love is real and that his power is now at work. The world that thirsts needs us to do this lent well.
