Twelve Causes of Gender Confusion

A Dozen Factors in Gender Confusion

Here are some suggestions:

1. Breakdown of the family — traditional gender roles are supported and developed by strong and positive relationships with the mother and father. At crucial times of development a boy’s development into a man is strengthened by his bond with his mother and then his bond with the father. Same thing with girls. A girl grows into womanhood through a strong, positive model in her mother and a strong, loving relationship with the father. When the marriage and family break down the chance for that positive experience can get twisted or go missing. The child’s ability to have a secure sexual identity becomes shaky.
2. Disappearance of the extended family — traditional gender roles were also supported by an extended family culture which unconsciously taught girls how to be women and boys how to be men. In extended family gatherings the women got together, cooked, chatted, supported one another and the girls saw that, wanted to belong to that and learned by daily living what it was to be a woman. Likewise, the boys were taken into the extended male gang with brothers, fathers, cousins, uncles and grandfathers. They learned there what it meant to belong to that clan and what it meant to be a man in that clan. With the disappearance of the extended family that automatic support for traditional gender clarity evaporated.
3. Feminism and Homosexualism — By these terms I am not condemning people who experience same-sex attraction and I am not against equal pay and rights for women in the workplace. Instead I am referring to ideologies and behaviors which have intentionally altered traditional role models for boys and girls. If a child is surrounded by varied expressions of sexual identity, no wonder he or she becomes confused. The girl wonders, “Am I supposed to be a Suzy Homemaker or a career woman?” If boys and girls are taught a range of sexual behaviors and identities, and if they live with a range of varied behaviors, it is no wonder that they are confused about which one they should be.
4. Rape and Promiscuity — Sexual promiscuity is rampant in our society. Children are sexualized at as early an age as possible. Middle school children are expected to be sexually active. In such a culture girls are often raped or date raped. Boys are preyed upon by older women and by older boys and men. For a child whose sexuality is still developing, the experience is terrifying and confusing. If a girl is raped or goes through a series of one-night stands with boys who don’t care for her, what happens to her sexual and personal self esteem? What happens to her idea of herself and her femininity? It’s ruined. It is the same with boys who are abused, seduced and lured into sexual relationships before they are mature. Their developing sexual identity — a very fragile thing — is also broken.
5. Artificial Contraceptives and Abortion — Think about it for a moment. Artificial contraceptives and abortion break the sexual act from the possibility of a girl or boy becoming a mother or father. Because of artificial contraceptives we have developed a “contraceptive culture” in which sex is not about being a mother or father, so no wonder people are confused about sex and gender. What does it mean to be a woman? What does it mean to be a man? We don’t know because being a man and being a woman is tied up with the action and meaning of the sexual act and the sexual act is for making babies, so if the sexual act has no meaning other than genital contentment it is not long before being a man or being a woman has no meaning. What is sex for? We don’t know. What is gender? We’re unsure.
6. The Disintegration of Marriage — Cohabitation, promiscuity, no-fault divorce, re-marriage, polyamory and serial marriage have all eroded the traditional marriage structure and the traditional marriage structure helped to teach clear gender roles. People understood what a woman was because they understood what a wife and mother was. They understood masculinity because they understood what it meant to be a husband and father. As marriage disintegrates, confusion about just what a husband or wife should be also disintegrates, as those models fail so gender identity becomes unclear. If marriage is not the goal, then how should a girl be a woman and what does it mean for a boy to be a man? We’re uncertain.
7. Education and Peer Pressure — As the extended family helps to support clear sexual identification, so educational institutions, structures and peer groups help to determine sexual identity formation. If an educational system endorses and teaches a multiplicity of sexual roles and identities, then we should expect increased gender confusion. There are more choices so more confusion. If the educational system also teaches them in a value-free environment, then, even if the young person wants to choose, he or she has no idea which choice is better than another.
8. Hormonal and Environmental Factors — We’re pumping ourselves full of prescription drugs. The meat we eat is full of growth hormones. The water we drink has traces of estrogen from all the birth control pills. We’re tinkering with genetics, altering the food chain, polluting the environment. Who knows what the cumulative effect of all this is for our diet, our water, the air we breathe and the world we live in? There are reports of sexual mutation in fish and reptiles because of the estrogen in the water. Are our hormones going haywire? Are there more children who experience gender confusion because there is a biological — not just a cultural cause? Who knows?
9. Pornography and Sexual Behaviors — Our society is awash with pornography, prostitution and promiscuity of all kinds. Any behavior which indulges in sex simply for pleasure causes sexual and gender confusion. As in number 5 above, repeated sexual immorality consolidates the impression that sex is not connected with becoming a mother and father. Sexual behavior is the way gender is expressed. If sexual behaviors are multiform, gender confusion results. Here’s an example: let’s say a boy starts viewing pornography. It could be that he began being attracted to women, but then he might become interested and fascinated by the men he sees on the screen. If he then acts out what he has seen and has conflicting feelings about his attractions and lusts, then sexual and gender confusion can result.
10. Breakdown of Religion — Religious rules for marriage and sexual behaviors have always been part of society. Quite apart from the belief that they are given by God, they have always had a practical purpose of containing and disciplining sexual behavior for the good of families, the protection of women and children and the good of society. When religion is forgotten, religious regulations and restrictions are abandoned. This leads to a sexual free-for-all which causes confusion about sexuality, the reasons for sex, about marriage and parenting. Consequently young people are wounded by sex, hurt by relationships and enter a gender wilderness — not knowing which way to turn.
11. Relativism and Atheism — What we believe affects how we behave and how we behave affects what we think about ourselves and others. Relativism in belief must go hand-in-hand with relativism in morality. If there is no such thing as truth, then there is no such thing as right or wrong. If there is no such thing as right or wrong, then anything goes sexually. And if anything you choose or desire is okay, then how is anyone supposed to know what might be better or worse, right or wrong, good or bad? If every gender choice is equally valid, it is no surprise that people are increasingly confused.
12. Diabolical Influence — It is interesting that the statue of the demon Baphomet which was recently erected by Satanists is androgynous. It has female breasts and a phallic symbol protruding from its lap. One arm is masculine and one arm is feminine. I am not suggesting that every case of gender confusion is caused by the devil or that transgendered people are demon possessed or that they should be demonized in any way. However, in my pastoral experience there is a spiritual dimension to this issue. Satan is at work all the time, and his influence can be a contributing factor to the problem on both a societal and individual scale.

The Mental Disorder of Gender Dysphoria

The 2013 edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), defines “gender dysphoria” in children. It is “a marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and assigned gender, of at least 6 months’ duration.” It is accompanied by “a strong desire to be of the other gender or an insistence that one is the other gender.” And, “the condition is associated with clinically significant distress or impairment.” Even transgender advocates use this definition. Note that gender dysphoria is listed as a mental disorder.

The vast majority of children with gender dysphoria outgrow it during adolescence. For them, the best approach is “watchful waiting.” But transgender advocates recommend subjecting them as soon as possible to the Dutch Protocol.

The Protocol has four stages. The first is to begin the transition to the other sex psychologically and socially. The second is to be given a hormone to block puberty. The third is to receive cross-sex hormones (estrogen for boys and testosterone for girls). The fourth is to undergo transgender surgery. In other words, the Dutch Protocol for treating a mental disorder is social and physical.

Transgenderism

The result is a “transgender” person. But a person can claim to be transgender without going through all four stages — or even one. In 2021, a 52-year-old man claiming to be a transgender woman exposed himself to women and a young girl in a Los Angeles spa. The women complained, but transgender activists protested against them. One protester held a sign that read, “Trans women are women.” Yet based on the man’s previous behavior and arrest record, he was subsequently charged with indecent exposure.

Scottish law now holds that a person is whichever gender he or she claims to be, regardless of sex. It requires only that the person has lived in the chosen gender for at least three months and intends to live in it forever. 

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling noted sarcastically that a rape victim might now be told, “The penised individual who raped you is a woman.”

• On July 25, Chinese officials granted conditional approval to Azvudine, an HIV drug, to be used as a COVID-19 treatment.
• Use of the HIV drug has reignited interest in early evidence suggesting SARS-CoV-2 is a bioweapon augmented with parts of the HIV virus.
• In late January 2020, Indian researchers published a paper claiming segments of the viral RNA appeared more closely related to HIV than other coronaviruses. The researchers even said SARS-CoV-2 responded to HIV medications.
• The Indian paper was quickly retracted, but not before catching the attention of the late Luc Montagnier, a world-renowned virologist who won the Nobel prize for his discovery of HIV. Montagnier insisted the Indian researchers were correct in their assessment, and had been forced to retract the paper “after enormous pressure.”
• Several scenarios are now converging to create the suspicion that getting an HIV vaccine to market may be a goal behind COVID-19. Lettera a mia nipote Olivia nata un mese fa per spiegare il mondo e la Chiesa che troverà tra vent'anni, quando magari penserà di sposarsi. Stiamo assistendo al trionfo della gnosi, con l'annientamento delle autorità morali e la confusione ispirata dagli stessi pastori. Una situazione che fa perdere la strada della salvezza a tante anime.

Lettera a mia nipote Olivia, nata un mese fa, da leggersi tra venti anni per capire il mondo in cui si troverà.

Cara Olivia,

fra 20 anni potresti desiderare di sposarti, ma quello che sarà il sacramento matrimoniale fra 20 anni dipenderà da noi oggi, o meglio, dipenderà dall’assise dei fedeli, via referendum….  Un Sinodo sul matrimonio si è concluso qualche giorno fa e leggendo i giornali si direbbe che hanno trionfato tutti (progressisti e conservatori), proprio come succede dopo le elezioni politiche cui siamo abituati. Anche se, leggendo la lettera al Corriere della Sera (27ottobre) del segretario del Sinodo (card. Baldisseri), si ha l’impressione che chi deciderà saranno gli utenti (il popolo di Dio) che verranno consultati con questionario per evidenziare il sensus fidei. Ciò perché il gregge possiede il proprio “fiuto” per discernere ciò che la Chiesa deve fare in una materia che riguarda loro. E poi la voce dello Spirito Santo risuona anche nella voce dei credenti, naturalmente. A questo punto, per capire quale sacramento ti attende, temo che dovremo attendere l’assemblea giudicante dei fedeli interessati alla materia…  

Cara Olivia,
ogni epoca ha sempre avuto le sue miserie, tragedie e grandezze. Ciò è stato fin quando l’uomo ha cercato di dare un senso alla propria vita ed azioni. E ciò è sempre successo perché le autorità morali delle varie religioni volevano e cercavano di spiegare le ragioni del bene e del male. La tua epoca rischia invece di veder scomparire le autorità morali, relativizzate ed omogeneizzate nel mondo globale, con il pretesto di evitare conflitti globali dovuti alla affermazione di dogmi e fondamentalismi, proposti soprattutto in contesti di evangelizzazione. Temo che le autorità morali non saranno più le stesse e questo con pregiudizio sulla conoscenza della Verità e della conquista della fede. Te ne accorgerai fra qualche anno quando farai catechismo.

A chi attribuire la responsabilità di tutto ciò se non alla gnosi che sta vincendo ovunque? In filosofia, essendo riuscita a relativizzare persino ciò che è assoluto. In antropologia, essendo riuscita a far autoridurre l’uomo ad animale più o meno intelligente, ma cancro della natura. In economia, essendo riuscita a far credere che sia la miseria economica a provocare quella morale. In scienza e tecnica, riuscendo a far credere che debbano entrambe avere autonomia morale. Le autorità morali (delle varie religioni) reagiscono differentemente a questa azione di ridimensionamento. In alcuni ambiti e culture reagiscono violentemente. In altri, si lasciano intimidire per timore di esser emarginate e, per non esser considerate fondamentaliste, arrivano persino a giustificare e camuffare abilmente il peccato, l’errore, il disordine.

il mondo in cui diventerai grande confermerà la teoria evoluzionistica, ma al contrario: l’uomo creatura di Dio si sta evolvendo in selvaggio. In questo mondo, in cui diverrai grande, fronteggerai alcuni rischi per superare i quali dovrai essere ben preparata. Il primo rischio starà nel non saper comprendere se la Verità venga prima o dopo la libertà di cercarla, e se nasca o no solo dal dialogo con altre verità. Il secondo rischio starà nel non riuscire a comprendere quale è l’origine dei mali che affliggono l’uomo, se è veramente l’inequità economica o l’iniquità morale. Altro rischio sarà faticare a comprendere la sottile difficoltà a scegliere tra misericordia e giustizia, quando queste sembrano esser in conflitto. Questi, e tanti altri, rischi diventano più gravi quando le autorità morali confondono le acque, rinunciando a ispirare e correggere le idee ed i comportamenti dell’uomo, e adeguandosi invece agli stessi, scusando e includendo, anziché pensare a convertire. Ciò, adeguandosi ai tempi che chiedono dinamicità evolutiva sulla comprensione delle leggi naturali.

Certo la Santa Chiesa, nel tempo, ha saputo, grazie ai Santi, operare cambiamenti per rettificare gli errori (degli uomini): si pensi alle eresie, al protestantesimo, al modernismo. Ma oggi la gnosi riesce persino a negare la verità dove dovrebbe essere e mettere la libertà di coscienza dove non dovrebbe stare. La gnosi oggi riesce a negare alla Chiesa il diritto di evangelizzare (per rispetto delle altre culture), chiedendole invece di lasciare alla coscienza (malformata come mai) decidere cosa sia bene o male. Ciò equivale a chiedere a un cieco di passare un semaforo dove non può veder il rosso e rischiare di farsi investire. Si chiede alla Chiesa di lasciare all’uomo la libertà di stabilire in coscienza cosa è bene per lui, non riflettendo che equivale a metter un topolino davanti a un formaggino messo nella trappola ben camuffata. Si chiede alla Chiesa di lasciare ai pastori decidere la maturità di coscienza dei fedeli per tornare al gregge, quando son gli stessi pastori che li hanno fatti uscire.

Ecco, tutto ciò mi permette di spiegarti, cara Olivia, perché c’è il riscaldamento terrestre globale. C’è grazie al numero esagerato di anime che vanno a bruciare all’inferno, grazie alla confusione sulla dottrina.
