Египат повукао амбасадора из Ватикана због папине изјаве

КАИРО - Египат је позвао свог амбасадора у Ватикану на консултације у Каиро у знак протеста због изјаве папе Бенедикта XВИ да напади на хришћанске цркве у Египту, Ираку и Нигерији указују да владе у тим земљама треба да донесу ефикасније мере за заштиту верских мањина.

"Египат је позвао свог амбасадора у Ватикану на консултације у Каиро после најновијих изјава из Ватикана које задиру у египатска питања и које Египат сматра неприхватљивим мешањем у унутрашње ствари земље," истакао је портпарол министарства спољних послова Хосам Заки у саопштењу достављеном Ројтерсу.

У експлозији бомбе испред коптске црвке у Александрији 1. јануара, погинуло је 23, а рањено више десетина људи. Уследиле су демонстрације православних Копта због пропуста владе да их заштити, а било је и сукоба са полицијом.

Египатски функционери инсистирају да су способни да заштите грађане, али тврде да постоје индиције да иза напада 1. јануара стоје "страни елементи".

Једна ирачка група повезана са Ал Каидом је у новембру претила да ће напасти египатске хришћане који чине око 10 одсто од 79 милиона становника те претежно муслиманске земље.

Један египатски хришћанин данас је убијен, а најмање троје је рањено, у једном возу у Египту, сазнаје се из египатских медицинских и безбедносних извора, али, за сада, није познато да ли је напад био верски мотивисан.

Маријам Салах, лекар у једној болници на југу Египта, казала је да се код њих лечи пет повређених хришћана и да јој је један од њих рекао да је шести нападнути хришћанин мртав.

Cardinal Naguib: "Christians and Muslims working together to build Egypt"

Egyptian Cardinal Antonios Naguib is the main leader of the Coptic Catholic Church in Egypt. He made clear that the riots which caused the fall of Mubarak have no religious connotations and that Christians and Muslims are working together to rebuild the country.

“The new regime in Egypt is the beginning of a peaceful movement to renew the Constitution, the State, and the regime. It's a search for a state that is not based on the authority of the police, or the dictatorship of one person, and not on a religious basis, but on the authority of a civil, democratic, free state. A state with civil and religious liberty in which there is room for everyone.”

Cardinal Naguib says that during the riots, Egyptian Christians and Muslims fought together to defend their homes from looting, when police failed to protect them in the face of chaotic riots.

“When the curfew sounded, men armed with clubs and knives, would take turns keeping watch at night. In building, which sometimes, they didn't know the others that lived there. Women brought food and drink for both Muslims and Christians alike. In Tahrir Square and everywhere else, they were together because they all defended the same values.”

The Cardinal came to Rome for a meeting organized by the Sant'Egidio Community to promote dialogue between Christians and Muslims in the Middle East. A meeting they say will help increase the cooperation between the two groups throughout the region.

No, arabs love only arabs - Proof is there is a small minority of scared and unhappy Christians population living in Egypt and in other arab countries. Do you know how many Jews are living in the 52 arab countries today? Not more than 100. Maybe things will change in Egypt it it becomes a true democratic - Hopefully they will respect other religions, not only Chritianity but Judaism too

the muslims will never work with anyone but themselves so don't let his holyness get his frock into an excited flap,coz it won't happen . He needs to go and sit in on Friday prays and see just where all this upheavel is coming from , its certainly not the catholic churches doing !!!!!!!!

@lydia6dg What happened was a Christian man allegedly raped a Muslim girl and that is what triggered the Church bombings on New Year. But regardless, that should have been taken up to a court of law----not the uncivilized suicide bombing of churches during mass and benediction in Egypt. Muslims resort to violence so much, they need the love and charity of God in their hearts.

Pope analyzes revolts in Middle East with President of Lebanon

Michel Sleiman, the president of Lebanon, visited Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican for the second time. He is the only Christian president in the region. They exchanged views on the riots that have been sweeping through the Middle East and asked for  an urgent resolution to the conflicts. Speaking in French, they also discussed the struggles for Christians in the Middle East.

The two spoke privately for about 30 minutes. According to the Vatican, they have highlighted the importance of collaboration and dialogue between Christians and Muslims, and stressed that “the presence of Christians and Muslims in Lebanon is a message of freedom and respectful coexistence throughout the Middle East.

The official statement underlines the importance of civil and religious authorities to educate the consciences for peace and reconciliation.

Sleiman was accompanied by his wife. He gave the Pope a sixteenth century gold and ivory incense burner, which came from a Maronite monastery.
