A suspected Serbian terrorist is in police custody after firing an assault rifle on the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hezegovina.

Regional media identified the shooter as 23-year-old Mevlid Jasarevic, a member of the conservative Wahabi sect of Islam, the same order that rules U.S. ally Saudi Arabia, the Associated Press reported.

A photo from the 30-minute standoff shows a young man with close-cropped brown hair and long beard dressed in a dark coat, brandishing a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The gunman reportedly wounded a police officer guarding the embassy before a single gunshot - possibly from a police or embassy sniper - felled him and he was taken into custody.

No employees of the embassy were injured, according to the State Department.

Local police sealed off the area while they searched for accomplices, Agence France-Presse reported.

During Bosnia's 1992-95 war, Muslims from around the world flocked to the Balkan country to join the fight. Some in the mostly moderate Bosnian Muslim community have converted to the more radical Islam banner.
