This project is an attempt to reconstruct Serbian medieval monastery complex of Holy Archangels, near Prizren, along with it's defending fortress Višegrad. The monastery was founded by Serbian Emperor Dušan during the period from 1343 to 1352, and it was great cultural center of that time. It’s estate stretched from the Šar Mountains to the Adriatic Sea and included about 100 villages and an iron mine. After the capture of Prizren and its surroundings by the Ottoman Empire in 1455, the monastery was looted and destroyed, but the monastic community survived. At the beginning of the 17th century, a systematic demolition was conducted on the monastery churches as to obtain construction material for Sofi Sinan Pasha's Mosque in the center of Prizren, which was finished in 1615. Restoration of the monastery began in 1995, and in 1998 it became an active male monastery again. In 1999, after NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, and only a few days after arrival of KFOR units, members of the terrorist Kosovo Liberation Army burned and looted the restored residence, kidnapping and killing one of the monks. Monastery was again partially restored in 2002, for it’s 650th anniversary celebration and during the 2004 unrest in Kosovo, the monastery complex was again under attack by Albanian extremists. The entire residence was burned and destroyed and the tomb of Emperor Dušan was broken and desecrated. The entire monastery complex is under protection of the Republic of Serbia, as a Monument of Culture of Great Importance, and today in the monastery lives one priest and the monastery is under constant protection of Kosovo Police and in a special protection zone. https://www.behance.net/gallery/21089035/The-Monastery-of-the-Holy-Archangels-Serbia
